About the work:
My original craft work was hand painted and quilted vests and jackets, designed as whimsical clothing for women. The clothing was done in food themes, and was accented with soft-sculpture ties which were designed to move with the wearer. In the 1990's, I turned to the quilt format, originally creating "square-within-a-square" designs, again using vegetable and fruit as inspiration. The squares disappeared, but the grid remains with the design elements in each square playing off of each other and interacting in a dynamic between vertical and horizontal, close up and overall views. The detail of the close up views led to my creating miniature quilts, focusing on embroidery detail, quilting and beading to emphasize the design elements, usually of flowers. When the American Crafts Council introduced Crafts4Kids, I returned to making quilted clothing trimmed with soft sculpture, this time for children. I have also enjoyed the challenge of using recycled materials in creating crafts for GreenCrafts.
